Los martes rezamos en procesión [On Tuesdays we pray in a procession]

2021
Site-specific installation for Residencia La Planta (Quito)
Los martes rezamos en procesión derived from a process of collecting and re-locating objects and waste found during the time of my residence in La Planta. Without any accompaniment or intervention in their materiality, I placed the objects in holes or niches (which I called grottoes or altars). Each object was accompanied by a numbered metal plate with a fragment of a text about the power involved in the selection and placement processes. In this work I thought about the act of collecting, as providing the found object with expanded possibility, and in the act of resituating, as a reiteration of the particularity of 'being' in contrast to the non-being that was infinite. In other words, there was an intention to insistently reveal the possibility of re-signifying an object through selection and relocation.
Shown in Mascar sin Escupir, La Planta 2021.

Intuyo, compongo y coloco; me comprometo y rezo.

   Porque sí.

[When the pointed gaze takes advantage of chance, holes become shrines and things on the floor become objects
   of worship.

Today I see to the power involved in selection and placement.

As soon as I collect, I give expanded possibility, and, as soon as I re-situate, I reiterate the particularity of being,
contrasting it again with the non-being, which is infinite.

I intuit, compose and place; I commit and pray.

   Just because.]
